Post 3: Organization for LUFF’s – Game On

Alright – game on! I’m going to begin tackling my mess of a guest room tomorrow (read all about it here). Do I want to sleep in, have a leisurely breakfast, browse through my favorite fleatique store, and go to a relaxing movie? YES (enthusiastically nodding head)! No. I want to organize instead (blast). Seriously, I’ll be so happy when I’ve actually done it…yep, I’ll be happy…I’ll be really happy (repeat 10 times…and then repeat again). Argh…just look at that room.

I’m going to fuel up on a homemade latte and start tackling that room inch by inch…well…maybe foot by foot…inch by inch could take a while. I keep reminding myself that the hardest part is getting started. Once you’re in there working (and listening to some good tunes) it’s not so bad.

I’ll show you what I am able to accomplish on Monday, but if you’re planning on working on a room of your own this weekend, here’s my initial gameplan.

THE GAMEPLAN

Step 1 - Divide and Conquer: Armed with garbage bags and boxes I’ll be dividing the contents of my room into categories. These will likely include:

  • Goodwill
  • Stuff to Sell either on Ebay, Craigslist or at a Garage sale
  • Garbage
  • Stuff to Keep in the Room (and find a place for)
  • Stuff to Keep but Move Elsewhere in the House

Anything that ends up in the Goodwill pile will immediately be taken to Goodwill. Anything in the Ebay or Craigslist pile will be listed right away…I know what happens if I put that task (uh hum…see photo above). Anything else that doesn’t belong in the room will also immediately find a new home…and if I can’t find a home for it I probably don’t need it that badly, right?

Once the excess is cleared out I can then focus on organizing the room to make it function the way it should. That will be Step 2 of the Gameplan, which I’ll share with you next week.

Have a great weekend everyone! And stay warm!!!

  1. I organized spare room/craft room yesterday and posted pics. Now I want to paint and redecorate. It's so hard to decorate when nothing is organized!

  3. This is exactly what I need to be doing this weekend too. As much as I don't want to do it. I've been relying on the old standard of "if I leave it alone long enough it will do itself" and it isn't working. dang it! So I'll be right there with you. Good times.

  7. I finally tackled the hallway "office" area of my home back in August, which was sparked by the purchase of a super-cute rug. I have no excuse for not clearing the junk area sooner, as the walls were already painted apple green and shelving was installed by the previous owners. I was able to incorporate all of the pink and green decor items that I've accumulated over the years. This is the first space we see as we walk into the house (from the garage) and I'm so thrilled that it's neat, organized and decorated!

    Good luck!

  8. You know, I'm NOT crafty. NOT. AT. ALL.

But looking at what you've accomplished AS A SINGLE MOM makes me so ashamed of my LUFFness that I am just about to get my fanny in gear and do something amazing.

Finishing one craft or project is on my life list this year.

And I have a whole pile 'o stuff for Goodwill in my diniag room - I cleaned out the closets over Xmas break.

    Thanks for being so inspiring!

  14. Hi, I just cleaned up my guest room and I love it.
It was the catch all space and it was a disaster!
I still have the ole magazine stack going on but it is infinitely better. Now I can have an overnight guest. The other night, I prepared some java, got some good reading material and went to my newly cleaned up guest room and chilled out.
I loved it! I still want to paint and get some new bedding but I am happy for now. Much luck with your clean up........the rewards are so worth it! Sue

  15. How do you determine what is to go to Goodwill and what is for Ebay and Craigslist? I have to admit this is my greatest problem and just don't have a clue about what to do.
