The problem, however, is that I usually like to see how the color will look in different areas of the room, (you know...different lighting, furniture, etc.) and it can be a pain to paint samples on every wall in the room. Soooo, why not just apply the paint to a large piece of paper that you can move around as you please?
Easy peasy....
Oh...and yes, I'm aware that the two paint samples are nearly identical. And no, I didn't need to the 2 guys at the Lowe's paint counter (and my 14 year old son) to point that out...and then snicker to each other...and point at the crazy paint lady. I'm very particular about my paint colors, okay? :-)
Okay, I do color consulting and I will tell you, you are NOT crazy. Those hues are very different! The one on the right is a darker sandy color. If it were me, I'd go for the one on the left!

ReplyDeleteThat is a great idea! I went around painting samples all over each wall in my rooms. What a mess. A piece of paper would have been much simpler and easy to stash away when company came over!

Now see that is a great idea. i simple put little patches of paint ALL OVER THE WALLS! Well then I have to make a decision and paint. I like your method much better. So much less stress involved. Thanks for sharing.

I paint big swatches on drywall and move it around, look at it from different angles, at different times of the day, in natural light, next to "this" item, etc. The slightest difference in paint formula can make all the difference in the world!

This is a smart idea. I'm very particular about my paint colors, too! I just repainted my foyer and upstairs hallway and the color looks totally different in different areas and different times of the day. I was shocked by how much darker it is upstairs than downstairs, for example. Drives me a little crazy, to tell you the truth, although I have a feeling I'm the only one who notices. ;-)

No, you are NOT crazy!!! The 2 colors that I have in my home are pretty similar in color, but they make ALL the difference in the world, depending on what room they are in.

These colors look different to me too. The one on the right looks darker to me. So I guess it depends on lighting. I know how you like lighter colors so maybe the one on the left?

ReplyDeleteWhen I was deciding what color I wanted to paint the bathroom I painted a piece of poster board and hung it up. I'm so glad I did because the original color I had chosen was dreadful looking in the afternoon light.

ReplyDeleteYeah, I am extremely paint crazy and have recently had my entire family room covered with tiny chips, then several chips put together. It got to where no one wanted to go in the room because I would confront them with which color they liked best! I am so crazy, I want to know the names of the colors you have posted! I used, after all that, Restrained Gold by Sherwin Williams bc several wonderful bloggers had recommended it!
