I'm Becoming One of "Those" People

Monday, November 2, 2009

I used to get really annoyed when I'd see Christmas decorations in stores in October. I guess I felt like it was disrespectful to Halloween...or something (...I never really nailed down a reason, it just felt wrong).

Well...I have a confession to make...I'm becoming one of "those" people. You know, those people that are tapping their fingers for Halloween and Thanksgiving to be overwith already so I can start hauling out the Christmas decor. It's shameful...I know.

I even started a computer file for "Christmas Decor" last month. Wanna see what's in there so far? You'll notice that I seem to be drawn to a muted, sparkly, natural vibe this year (I realize how ridiculous that sentence just sounded to anyone not as totally obsessed with decor as moi).

Ahhh, see what I mean? Now keep in mind, these are inspiration photos only. I'm NOT going to buy all this stuff (puh-lease say you know me better than that!). Y'all know I'm going to be gathering twigs and re-purposing Diet Pepsi cans to get the look I want (kidding about the soda cans...). C'mon November 27th...c'mon November 27th....

I'm starting early this year, that Nester girl made me do it! I'm looking forward to pulling some things out earlier this year, we're going for bright red & green this time around. I will be a big departure from last year's blue & white, and before that it was pink & black. I can't wait for all the bloggy Christmas tips to start -- I'm so excited!

I agree. I always cringed when I saw Christmas come sooner and sooner. But this year I am ready to get at it. My hubby is going to Afghanistan mid December so we will not be doing the whole shebang which normally means at least 9 trees..yikes. But I have decided to do one room- my dining room in all whites and tans. It needs to be soothing in all the hysteria.
Yeah bring on November 27 please already.

Thank you!!! I am right there with you! My neighbor will start decorating for Xmas in about a week. I use to get annoyed, now I think I am going to join her! I just can't wait to get started. I love the pics you posted.

Well I am one of those people but I wasn't before I got married. Hubs is a big kid & I have to listen to him beg for the tree until I finally submit. Thankfully I held him off till Nov. 1st this year. You can see a few pics of my tree @ http://ourhopefulhome.blogspot.com/
Love your inspiration file especially the one with the mercury glass. Never sure how I felt about it but I think I like it for Christmas

I say...go for it! I just know the pilgrims liked Christmas too! A little sparkle and a little turkey...I say decorate early and then sit back and enjoy the entire month of December.

I really like the pictures you have on file. Thank you for sharing them.

This is too funny! I just wrote a post (not published till tomorrow) on this very topic! I'm all for enjoying the moment and not rushing through Thanksgiving. (Although I have to admit that I went through my Christmas stash in the basement today. Just surveying the options.:) I also wrote to expect to see burlap, feathers, birds, and nests trimming the trees this year. Your inspiration post is a perfect representation! Love it.

I totally would skip Thanksgiving...I mean, not the food, but I'm not nuts about that holiday. I was SKIPPING through the aisles when the Christmas stuff was coming out. It showed up in Lowes in September -- GLEEEEEE.

Thank-you for those images! I needed the inspiration. I could only wish I could wait till the 27 to decorate, but I have to be done BY then. I'm taking part in a townwide Christmas show on that weekend. YIKES.

Paint, drywall dust AND pinecones. Wish. Me. Luck.

I am the same! I especially love that Hobby Lobby already puts their ornaments 40% off. I fall for it. November 27th???? I don't think I can wait that long! Well see?

I am in the same boat - I always turned my face in disgust when I saw Christmas and Halloween at the same time - but now...oh, how I can't wait to put that tree up (I promise I will wait until December)!

I love PB but there'll be none of that this year. I do love the catalog and the website. It's a fun way to window shop.

I'm a November 27th girl. Christmas is my absolute most favorite holiday EVER, but I always feel like I'm cheating Thanksgiving if I don't give it fair play. I like to save the fun for after Thanksgiving, when it feels more like the season....

I am one of "those" people! ;) And I was excited to click on this post and see all the Christmas goodies! lol

Oh, now Christmas decor is more my speed! Our tradition has been to decorate the day after Thanksgiving...coming up soon!

I totally get the "vibe" comment...I go for the sparkly red/green/silver vibe and all other decorations stay in a box in the basement!

I like looking at things in shops before it actually gets to December, but I would nener decorate for Christmas before then. I think the reason it's wrong when you see things before Halloween is that It is a very evident sign of what all of our previously meaning-laden festivals have become for alot of people - and excuse for consumerism.

For me, decorating for Chrsitmas is a family tradition, and soemthing to be done as a family. Christmas is in December, and so thats when decorations should go up.

My point of view may be very different though, as people don't decorate for the seasons much in the UK either, and Halloween decorating is done a couple of days before and taken down the day after.

I know exactly what you mean! I am thinking lots of burlap and mercury glass mixed in this year!

Great inspiration photos. I'm one of 'those' people, but it helps that our Thanksgiving (here in Canada) was several weeks ago. Halloween is okay but I much prefer Christmas. I will be starting before too long.

Another one of those people. Although I like starting the decorating Nov. 1st. Halloween comes down and Christmas goes up.

Christmas decorations are so fresh at this time of year. Time to plan schemes and get in those extra little updates.

By Dec 26, I'm ready to rip it all down!

"muted, sparkly, natural"--I know exactly what you mean!
Now what could we do with the DP cans? I have a few...

I can’t wait for Christmas either. Wish I could bypass Thanksgiving and get right to Christmas too. I'm very excited to decorate my house this year and do some crafts. Those pictures are beautiful. Pottery Barn always has great ideas.

I already hung the xmas wreath...I was never one of those people I would have waited until after Thanksgiving but this year I am just too excited!

I usually spend "black friday" decorating not shopping, but i have the itch already... first Christmas in the new house! I think I may be well on the way to done by then!

I'm still that girl that thinks it's horrible that Christmas happens in stores before Halloween happens (or my birthday for that matter). My boyfriend and I both have birthday the first week of December so I always say AFTER we celebrate our bdays we can get on with Celebrating Jesus' birthday :)

I'd be lying if I didn't admit that I'm already drooling over the decor in stores. Walmart near our home has even started piping cinnamon scent through the vents close to the Christmas decor... pretty sneaky Walmart!
