WE LOVE YOU FIDO, BUT NOT YOUR UGLY BAGS OF KIBBLE

Monday, February 23, 2009

Okay, I was being a little overly optimistic about finishing my bathroom over the weekend. Right now it's a little like a half baked cake...you really don't want to see it yet because it's all runny and gooey, or something like that. I promise I'll have some great stuff to show you soon.

So, in the meantime, I thought I'd chat about a fun little container I made for the kitchen. I hated the big ugly yellow dog food bag and I really wanted something like these from Ballard Designs, but without the $49 price tag.

I looked high and low and found this canister online at The Honest Kitchen. It was the perfect size and only $18...very doable.

I gave it a little shot of this spray paint.

And then added a "K" for Kingsley (my little pooch's name) that was custom made for me by Vinyl Vineyard on Etsy.

And voila! A pretty dog food container for a pretty little price!
(Note to self: Next time take the extra 5 minutes to prime before painting in order to avoid the little nicks in the lid. Ah well, live and learn.)

The one's from Ballard Designs are cute, but honestly, I like yours better! The color is great and I love the "K"! :)

Very cute! It reminds me that I could do the same by re-purposing the holiday popcorn gift tin we've had - you know the large tin with three kinds of popcorn in it?

Great idea! I don't like those ugly bags either so we put ours in a clear tub ... not that it's any prettier, but it stays fresh. I'm going for this look! Thanks!

I did almost the same thing! I got what used to be my detergent bucket, sprayed it with paint that adheres to plastic and now I don't mind that the dog food is out all the time. lol!
It's the little things that seem to make me smile
Have a great day!

You don't know how many times I have looked to see if those containers were on sale from Ballards and now you've given me inspiration to make my own! Yeah no more tupperware holders for Lucy! Thanks for visiting my site the other day - your cabinets look great too - I'm just sorry you had to go through all that work! You've got me hooked! Have a great day!

That looks SO much better than my flip-top garbage can. It is white and it is clean, but still... I love your idea.

Hey, hot dog, that turned out awesome. Love that you put the dog's initial on it. You're a trusting soul to leave the food so close to the pouch's nose! My Lucky Cowdog would have it open and eaten in a sec ;)
